Ahead of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, the Luis Norton de Matos managed India colts are all set to camp in Bengaluru from August 16th for the all important FIFA U-17 World Cup which is to be played in India in October.
The Indian colts recently toured Mexico where they took part in a four-nation tournament, facing off against Colombia, Chile and the hosts. The Cubs unfortunately lost the opening game against Mexico 5-1 followed by another 0-3 defeat against Colombia. Their final match of the tour was something to cheer about where they held South American U-17 Championship runners-up Chile to a 1-1 draw. This can be a great confidence booster for the Blues as Chile is one of the strongest teams in the youth circuit. Another silver lining from the tour as it appears to be is that scouts from Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur were believed to be impressed by the application level of the Indian starlets.
According to sources in Mexico, the scouts were pleasantly surprised by India’s fighting performance against their more accomplished opponents. Given their record of picking up the best youngsters on the planet for their state-of-the-art academies, both Spurs and City, have a worldwide scouting network in regions of lesser priority. Scouts will be all over India during this October’s FIFA U-17 World Cup which could prove to be a great opportunity for these youngsters.
It speaks volumes of Luis Norton De Matos’ Indian team that his charges attracted eyeballs from two of the biggest clubs in world football and the day seems not too far when an Indian player is picked up by the footballing elite.
