A charity match between FPAI XI and Mizoram XI was organised in Aizawl in response to the devastating flash floods, which caused considerable loss of lives and property in many places across the state.

The charity match was organized at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Aizawl on July 1, with both sides contributing Rs. 1 lakh each towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The match ended in a 2-2 stalemate, with Bhaichung Bhutia and Seityasen Singh scoring late in the game to secure a draw for FPAI after Mizoram had scored twice in the first half through Jeje and Samuel Lalnunpuia. The FPAI XI team boasted of various Indian stars like Michael Chopra, Bhaichung Bhutia, Pritam Kotal, Deepak Mondal, Jackichand Singh, CK Vineeth and Seityasen Singh among others whereas Jeje Lalpekhlua, Lalrindika Ralte and Lalramchullova were among the players in the Mizoram XI side.

With Aizawl FC’s players Ashutosh and Jayesh Rane also contributing towards the cause, it seems like football is helping in great ways to provide relief in the disaster struck region.
