Real Madrid will face the Italian champions in the final of the Champions League 2017 in Cardiff on the 3rd of june. This will be Real’s 3rd final in 4 years out of which they have won two. Atletico was able to beat their local rivals 2-1 on the day but lost the fixture on an aggregate score of 4-2 courtesy of the drubbing faced at the Bernabeu last week.

The brilliance of Karim Benzema and Isco booked Real Madrid a place back in the UEFA Champions League final after the holders survived an early scare when Atletico went on a rampage and scored two in the first 15 minutes. Early goals from Saul and Antoine Griezmann gave Diego Simeone’s men realistic hope of hauling back a 3-0 first-leg deficit before a goal from Isco late in the first half effectively ended the contest. Atletico tried with all their heart in the second half as well but missed crucial chances to make a comeback in the game. Kevin Gameiro should have done better on the end of a swift Atletico counter-attack where he hit one straight to Navas from a point blank range among other missed opportunities by the home team.
Life of Simeone:
1) born
2) getting knocked out of UCL by real Madrid.
3) death.#ucl #AtletiRealMadrid— abdur REHMAN (@Abdurrehman_5) May 10, 2017

Real’s fans provoked the Atletico faithful with a massive “how does it feel” banner with reference to their two final victories in the past three years. Regardless, the tensions were high and it turned out to be a high intensity attacking game from both sides. Now Real Madrid are one match away from being the first team in Champions League history to retain the title but Juventus and a hungry Buffon stands in their way making it a mouth watering fixture to look forward to.
