Indian Arrows, a team of country’s U-17 and U-19 players, will have a first taste of top-tier domestic football when they lock horns against Chennai City FC in their opening I-League match on Wednesday.
The AIFF has revealed the squad which has no place for Indian wonder boy Komal Thatal, the issue which has been raising quite a few eyebrows lately. The player who had shown impressive individual skills in the tournament is understood to have fallen out of favour with the coach. There won’t be Mohammad Shahjahan either, he is likely to return to the Minerva academy. NRI Namit Deshpande has returned to the US and it will be some time before Sunny Dhaliwal returns from Canada.
Head coach Luis Norton de Matos said his main aim was to give the boys quality playing time and gain experience. “For us, winning or losing is not the criteria but our sole aim is to get good experience. I know it is going to be a big challenge for the boys to compete against teams who have foreign players who are physical tough and technically superior.” De Matos said. The Indian FA’s developmental side kickstart their I-League campaign on Wednesday when they host Chennai City FC at the Bambolim stadium in Goa.
