Kerala Blasters confirmed the signing of former Manchester United defender Wes Brown and by the looks of it are all set to rope in another Red Devil superstar in Dimitar Berbatov.

The Blasters’ new boss Rene Meulensteen is already well acquainted with the pair after working with them during his coaching stint at United. Meulensteen spent six years as first team coach at Manchester United from 2007 to 2013, helping to guide Sir Alex Ferguson’s team to three Premier League titles in that time.Brown spent a good 15 year at Manchester United, making 232 appearances for the Red Devils. In that time, he won 5 Premier League medals and also the Champions League trophy. The 37-year-old spent last term with Blackburn Rovers but only made five appearances and ran out the rest of his contract training at Macclesfield Town.

Talks with Berbatov, who is the leading scorer for Bulgaria with 48 goals in 78 appearances had seemingly hit a roadblock following the striker’s steep wage demands but it is believed that a consensus is close to being reached between the two parties. Both Brown and Berbatov are free agents but are on the wrong side of their 30s. That said, should the Blasters rope in both Berbatov and Brown, they will be automatically elevated to one of the major title contenders for next season’s new-look ISL.

With Berbatov and Brown in the team, Kerala side will be loaded with star power but will the duo be able to guide Kerala Blasters to their maiden ISL title?
